An illustrated history of standing up

The Reverend Terry Jones, a self-proclaimed New Testament preacher, says that he is indeed concerned that his planned 9/11 memorial might cost one life. Even one causes him anguish. It’s a heavy responsibility. But, the man of God asks, according to AP,

“How much do we back down? How many times do we back down?” Jones told the AP. “Instead of us backing down, maybe it’s to time to stand up. Maybe it’s time to send a message to radical Islam that we will not tolerate their behavior.”

I’m not sure if the New Testament preacher was looking for an answer. If so, he might try Matthew 18:21-22. But I’m sure there is some special fundamentalist explanation of that command that we lay people can’t understand by just reading it.

He says, however, that he will pray on his decision.

Perhaps he should also review the history of his kind of “standing up.”

Well I have to say, given all that, this looks kinda tawdry:
